Upon election, one of Jim’s top priorities was to have 24-hour law enforcement dispatching locally, instead of from Riverside, in order to improve response time. This was accomplished by mid-1998. Jim was also instrumental in increasing Palm Desert’s Public Safety budget by 44 percent of the general fund. This was done to beef up community policing, enhance traffic enforcement and provide school safety. Currently he is working on the expansion of Palm Desert’s Police Station.
